Mom was able to eat her eggs and steak this morning for me with no problem. She was rambling less and knew who she was and who I was as soon as I walked in the door. I spoke to one of the Neurosurgeons (the one who performed her first surgery) and he said that all this rambling, talking to people that are not there and being in a different time period is all normal. He also said that he thinks she is doing REALLY well!
This afternoon, they had her sitting in a chair instead of the bed to where she could say hello to people passing by and eat. Not only was she eating her food well....she was able to feed herself (which is something that they said she may not be able to do right away and may have to relearn). Did I mention how amazing this woman is?
This evening she was super tired, therefore she was rambling more, fidgeting, not being compliant etc. Hopefully she will get some sleep this evening and shine again tomorrow.

They took the feeding tube out and she is swallowing really well. The nurse said she had been asking about me that morning but when she first saw me she didn't know my name, but after I told her she said she remembered and "for the longest time we didn't know what Angie's name was going to be....southern bell...southern dynamite or lawn food". She said that she really likes to spend time with her cousin Terri and Ronnie? And something about Stephen F. Austin. And, she talked about bringing something to Mrs Goose? Then she spoke of her Mom (and when I asked what her mom's name was she said Wanda) and how she needed to get that room finished for John and Jake. Also, she spoke about Leona and Allison's Mom?
I showed her a picture of me and her and asked her who was in the picture. She was being cute and responded, "Me and the sweetest gal you've ever met". When I asked her again who it was...she smiled and answered "you" :). She knew the picture of Johnny and said that was her husband and how much they loved each other. When I showed her a picture of Amelia she said, "Oh my gosh...that is a picture of you". I told her it was Amelia, my daughter and her Granddaughter. She said, "Oh okay....well it looks like you". :)
When I showed her a picture of her and Gloria she said, "Oh wow....that is Jeany Timill...she has passed away away though". Do any of these names make sense to any of you? I thought it would be interesting to share what we talk about bc it sounds like bits and pieces of her past...with a lot of nonsense ramble in between.
I did ask her several times throughout our conversation who she was, who i was and who her husband was and she was able to tell me most times. She really does seem to be getting better with her her thoughts and recognition. I am so very proud of her.

Hello Everyone! This is the very best way for Johnny and I to keep everyone up how mom is doing. Since there are so many of you that know and love Mom and want frequent updates on how she is doing ...it makes it difficult to make/get a lot of calls especially because we are already living this and have to re-live it every time we make/get phone calls explaining over and over what the situation is. Plus, with Johnny and I having so much on our plate with: full time jobs, keeping up with a toddler before and after work (me), keeping up with the house, bills, animals, constantly going up to visit Mom, talking to Dr.s & insurance companies and trying to get her into a rehabilitation facility...sooo...one update to a blog makes a lot of sense. This way, you guys can log on and find out at your convenience how she is doing and update others unable to use a computer. Thanks for understanding and caring so much about Gaye.
Mom seems to be doing better with her rash, it is drying up. They gave her a swallow test today and she passed...which means she may no longer need a"peg" in her stomach instead of the feeding tube she already has through her nose. She is doing better with self recognition. When I walked in she told me her name was Gaye but didn't know who I was. She said my name was Harold Arrington. She said it was 1978, and when you asked her specific questions that are from her past she would answer correcctly
"who is Terri"?
"My cousin. We used to live together on Sanburn street".
I asked her what her mother, brother and sisters names were separately and she told me all of them.
She is very alert and talking REALLY well...sometimes talking from the moment you get there til the moment you leave and you literally have to interrupt her to ask her a question. She goes on long rambles about people and things that have happened with a lot of nonsense mixed in.
This evening she knew who Amelia, Johnny and I were and seemed to be doing better with overall recognition.
Her progress is kinda hour to hour...at least at this point but we are hopeful and praying.
